Phnom Penh: AMK celebrates the 15-year of its achievement at the Angkor Empire territory on November 30, 2018. Over the past 15 years, AMK has remarkably achieved by improving the lives of Cambodian people, especially who have lived in the remote areas, have seen significant positive changes through the delivery of appropriate and viable microfinance services. This celebration was held together with the annual management workshop at Sokha Hotel, Siem Reap province.
The origins of AMK Microfinance Institution Plc. traced back to Concern Worldwide in the 1990s. As operations grew, in 2002 Concern decided to create a separate microfinance company which became known as AMK. By 2003, AMK was functioning independently of Concern and subsequently received its license from the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) in 2004.
Currently, AMK is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Cambodia. From year to year, AMK has continuously developed itself constantly by focusing on the development of its financial products and services and investing in new technologies in order to meet our customers’ demands, especially to keep up-to-date the growth of using the latest global technology.
Speaking at the opening of the event Mr. Kea Borann, CEO of AMK said that, “Over the last 15 years, AMK has grown significantly. In fact, in 2010, AMK was granted a deposit license from the National Bank of Cambodia. In 2011, AMK launches nationwide money transfer service, and in 2013 we launched ATM/CDM. More importantly, we have just changed the core T24 core-banking system, this new system makes our work more effective.”
He said that regarding to our financial highlights, as of October 2018 AMK has total number of staff over 2,700, total clients of over 840,000 with a loan portfolio of over USD247 million, and deposits of more than US$ 146 million. The number of offices has reached 150, and over 3,700 agents nationwide.
Mr. Borann said that “These results will not happen without the involvement of AMK staff at all levels. This growth is clearly due to our staff commitment and active involvement.” Adding that “I would like to express my deepest thanks to all staff who have done well in fulfilling their mission, regardless of time and effort over the last 15 years that have helped AMK significant achievement.”
