AMK Chairman Retires and is Replaced by Former CEO
Longtime chairman of AMK, Tom O’Higgins, retired from the AMK Board of Directors on 17 November 2010 after seven years at the helm. O’Higgins, an Irish national and former partner at accounting firm PWC, formally announced his intention to retire at the AMK Board Meeting held in Phnom Penh. The new Chairman will be Tanmay Chetan, former CEO of AMK and now partner at Agora Microfinance Partners based in London.
AMK CEO, Pete Power, commented that Tom O’Higgins presence will definitely be missed at AMK. “Tom’s influence was critical in the establishment of AMK as an independent institution and its subsequent growth to be one of the largest MFIs in Cambodia”. Gerhard Bruckermann, another long-term board member, also retired at the board meeting. Bruckermann, former CEO of DEPFA Bank, has been instrumental in many of AMK's initiatives over the years.
Mr. Tanmay Chetan was unanimously approved as AMK’s new Chairman. He reiterated the board's and shareholders' commitment to AMK’s social mission. He also thanked Tom and Gerhard for their significant contributions, whilst committing to ensure that AMK will continue to work towards realizing their vision.
